Crossing The Line

Well, everybody, here I go

This weekend the church that I attend will be premiering a new art gallery in their front lobby and I’m submitting several of my newly created daffodil prints for this month’s theme, “New Life.”

Although the main objective of the gallery is to display artwork that glorifies God, there will also be the opportunity to actually make my very first sale, thus catapulting me from my current amateur status into that of a real live paid professional.    Hey, we’ve all got to start somewhere, right?

I’m finishing up putting together my first set of business cards this morning and trying to determine how much to charge for my prints.  I’ve purchased an assortment of clear bags to put the individual prints in (to keep fingerprints at bay) and I’ve bought my first box of photo mailers in case someone wants a print sent to their home.

Now I guess its time to get that Federal Tax I.D. number and take a class on running a small business from my home.  I’m picking my feet up and crossing that line where one believes their work is worth someone else’s attention (and hard-earned cash) and I couldn’t be more excited.  The fact that my first sale ever may come out of my contribution of artwork to my church is just icing on the cake.
