Potted

The reason you’re getting so many flower photographs lately?  Two reasons, really.  First, last year’s flowers were wiped out by a late snow so I didn’t get much of a chance to photograph them last year.  There’s a chance this weekend could take out this year’s crop as well but I’m keeping my fingers crossed.  In the meantime, I’m doing everything I can to make up for lost time. 

Second reason?  I’ve pretty much been limited to work and home / work and home all week long.  I’m on day three of total laryngitis from a head cold that decided to go viral on me.  Hence, there have been no long walks, no treks through the forest, no landscape or day trip photos to post.  I’m sick and barely have the energy to shoot anything but for the photos I can generate from my own front and back doors. 

Today, you get a glimpse of the philodendron plant that sits above my sink in the kitchen.  Hey…at least its not another daffodil, right?

Dropped

I was arranging some of the spring’s first daffodils in a vase today when I noticed a few drops of water had escaped. 

I loved the abstractness of the shot and knew it had black and white conversion written all over it.  If you look closely in the big drop that’s my kitchen window being reflected in it’s lines and curves.

Easy Being Green

I’ve had a shamrock plant for close to eight years now.  I find it to be a pretty happy plant - keep it from getting thirsty and it will grace your kitchen window with its sun-seeking leaves and frilly white flowers.

To me, it represents part of my heritage, but it also reminds me of a place faraway that I one day hope to visit.  In my mind, the rolling hills of Ireland are as green as the leaves on my shamrock plant.  I cannot wait to see those hills in person one day!

For now, though, the green of the shamrock will have to tide me over…

Lullabye

The sun streamed into the kitchen this morning and both Grace and Petee took the opportunity to bask in it while they took their morning nap. 

There’s really nothing I love more than watching them sleep…unless it’s me taking a nap of my own.

Hip To Be Square

It’s freezing again (literally) so I had to find something to photograph INSIDE again tonight.  I pulled out the new 100mm macro lens and headed down the hall to shoot the colorful squares my mom pieced together to make my quilted wall-hanging. 

I ended up setting the lens to “bulb” and then dragging the camera across several of the squares, going from color to color and pattern to pattern.  Several of the shots turned out pretty interesting but this one was far and away my favorite.  If you look closely, you can see the lines where the squares meet up in rows… 

New Life

Even though it’s only 14 degrees outside, winter can’t seem to stop my houseplants from doing their thing.  This is a new leaf bud on my philodendron plant, caught with that new macro lens I can’t seem to set down. 

St. Paddy’s Preview

I have a shamrock plant that sits on my kitchen counter that came into bloom right as my birthday rolled around so I used it to get in some more practice with my new macro lens. 

I cropped it in PSE, added a “Paint with Light” action and then did a little smudging and blurring around the edges.

El Numero Uno

Here it is…my first macro shot with the new camera and the new EF 100mm f/4L macro lens.  Want to know why I’m so excited?  Because I shot this indoors at night with no flash and just an overhead light for illumination.   And look at those colors!  Okay, must get back to practicing!
