Our state tree here in Missouri is the dogwood. Until today, my friend didn’t realize dogwoods came in white, yellow, light pink and dark pink. And, besides being a tree, they are also a flower.
Back at Powell Gardens today, all of them were in bloom and they were magnificent. This one was off near a wooded area with the mid-day sun shining down on its bright white blossoms.

One of my favorite trees. Do you know of the legend about the dogwood being the tree used for the crucifixion and the symbolism of the flowers? I figure you have heard of it.

Annie, I think I heard it years ago when I was growing up but not recently. What’s the rest of the story?

I grew up in the “Dogwood City”, Quincy IL, right across the Mississippi from MO. It seems every yard there has at least one dogwood.
Your photo is perfect – the sunlight caught in the white of the flower.
