Miss Maya
April 26, 2008 — HeyJulesOne of my dear friends let me come over and try out my hand on a few unposed portraits of her family this morning. Her son and husband were gone so it was just the girls today - Shannon, Miss Maya, and Ellie, the pug.
I learned a lot on this first outing. Number one - comb the hairs out of a little girl’s face before you start shooting. Number two - double check to make sure that remnants of whatever she ate that morning aren’t still lingering behind on her face somewhere. Number three - dogs pose better after they’ve “done their business.” And the final thing I learned - make SURE you know where the sun is at all times.
Still, for all the things I got wrong…I did manage to get a couple of nice photos.

She is indeed a beautiful child. All in the genes, you know. (Yes, I’m her dad.)

I think another rule is … work fast! Little kids don’t stay still long, especially on nice spring days. Nice shots. Looks like you performed some PS actions on these as well.

Julie, I’d say you’re well-acquainted with that 100mm! Your work has a certain mood about it. I love these portraits.
