Saying Goodbye to Winter

I was cleaning up outside this evening and found a plastic tub that had fallen just beneath the deck.  I pulled it out and found a clump of ice with some dead leaves stuck to it.  Well, you know me - I had to run inside and get the camera because everyone who sees a clump of ice with a bunch of dead leaves stuck to it knows this is a prime photo opportunity, right?!

(Okay, so I’m alone on this.)

But, considering it was the last sign of cold weather left in my yard, I grabbed the opportunity and shot off a few frames.  This was my favorite of the bunch…

Cold As Ice

It does have a unique abstract feel to it, their is beauty in everything, great work :)

    but I like

Nah, you’re not alone in that… How about rotten apples from last year on the ground between dead leaves or dried up damson plums still up in the tree? Yeah, been there, done that… I’ve got even doggy poop! That was an accident, though, I was actually shooting a butterfly but the pile was right next to the flower the butterfly was sitting on *grin*

I agree with Pete - this one would require more depth of field. It would bring out the colours and the texture better and make the photo even more delicious. DOF is a tricky thing in shooting macros, and I’m nowhere near getting the hang of it! With a compact camera large dof happened without effort (even when not needed!) but now…

And you’ve changed the template here, too!

Yeah, I realize the DOF is off…but it was five seconds before sunset and I had my lens wide open and was barely getting enough light to take the shot. I still like the way the edge of the middle layer is nice and crisp and I like the different tones between the layers - but you’re all right - a little better lighting and I would have had a much better DOF.

Nice shot J - I do like the crispness of the leaf edges. But then I am leaf lovin gal too so you can’t take my word for anything.

Just the thought of ice melting sends chills down my spine - literally.
I kike the new look - crisp and clean. Nice to highlight photos. I keep looking at themes specifically for photo blogs, but just don’t know enough to leave the shelter of WordPress. I am not a geek, more like a squeak.
