Not Long Now
February 25, 2008 — HeyJulesThis weekend, I got some really cool shots of the ice that formed along the rocks and tree roots inside a waterfall. For a couple of moments I remembered how beautiful winter can be when it’s not being judged for how long it takes me to scrape it off my car. Instead, I saw the softness and beauty of all that white stuff I’ve been cursing these past couple of weeks.
Shame on me for forgetting that winter can be truly beautiful. Don’t believe me? Zip up those high top boots and go for a walk in a forest. Oh, sure, I am still chomping at the bit for spring to make an appearance - but that walk in the woods reminded me of the quiet beauty of winter and got me over that desperation for warmer temperatures that I’d been feeling.

So far, it is my favorite season to take photos with my new camera! What is this exactly - very pretty.

This is the ice crystals that formed at the bottom of a tree root that sat in the middle of the waterfall. Right below the black part is the rushing water of the falls.

Absolutely the picker-upper I needed. The quiet and solitude are precious. I’m going for a walk when it warms a little. And I think I’m going by myself - no camera, no notebook - just me. Sometimes I need to think inside and privately.

Julie, I can hardly wait to see what you come up with this Spring! Those lenses are going to take you places you never expected to go! This focus on ice is just the beginning. Can’t wait to see your warm-weather work!
